Meditation is a process of mind training and has been practiced for thousands of years. It has been credited with bringing peace, relaxation and longevity to those who practice it on a regular basis. There has been a huge upsurge in attention given to the connection between the body, mind and soul and how this affects our life and our health. As a result, there has been a lot of interest in meditation as a simple and easy tool to bring calmness and peace into our lives.
Ancient masters believed that meditation could alleviate suffering of the mind. They taught that if you learned to focus the mind and cultivate a state of compassion and joy, you would be able to change your mental powers and emotional patterns. Technology now allows the wisdom of the masters to be tested and the research continues to come in how meditation affects the brain. What is being discovered is that when you practise meditation regularly you profoundly influence how you experience your life.
Studies have shown that meditation can lower blood pressure, improve your ability to concentrate, decrease pain and reduce your feelings of stress. Participants in my groups have commented on how calm and balanced they feel after meditation and how much lighter they feel emotionally. The more you exercise your meditation muscles, the easier it becomes.
